LA Voice, a federation of PICO National Network, and several allies are responding to Congress’ failure to pass permanent protections for young immigrants under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program with a press conference and rally at the office of U.S. Congressman Steve Knight (D-CA) on Tuesday, March 6 at 11:00 a.m.
Several federations affiliated with the PICO National Network are hosting escalating actions March 5-8. The actions are a response to the lack of congressional action on the impending end of DACA, the administration’s hostile treatment of undocumented communities, and the crisis into which immigrants across the country have been plunged.
“As a voter and resident in the 25th Congressional district,” said constituent Yvonne Figueroa, “I am deeply disappointed with Congressman Knight for his lack of leadership to protect immigrant families in his district. I ask Mr. Knight to take bold leadership by supporting fair and just immigration legislation that keeps families together, and stand against policies responsible for causing the painful separation of mix immigration status families.”
“We are facing a moral crisis in how our government treats immigrant families,” said Francisco García, an Episcopal priest and member of the CLUE Board of Directors. “Mothers and fathers are criminalized for going to work; children fear going to school. As people of faith, we call on Rep. Knight and Congress to immediately work on a permanent immigration solution by passing a Clean DREAM Act; to preserve TPS for those at risk of losing it, and stop the aggressive detention and deportation practices of ICE.
On Tuesday, March 6, the organizations will gather at 11a.m. at the Santa Clarita office of Congressman Steve Knight, (R-CA), for a press conference followed by a protest. Joining LA Voice will be representatives from several organizations including ICE OUT LA; Bend the Arc; Episcopal Sanctuary Task Force; Coalición de TPSianos; and CLUE.
